The year 2024 was a super year for wind power logistics at the Port of Kokkola. Under the leadership of Kokkola Port, over 1,000 land transports were carried out from Hopeakivi Harbor to the Lestijärvi and Sandbacka wind farms throughout the year.
Jyrki Roukala, Development Manager at the Port of Kokkola, is pleased with the exceptionally successful year. According to him, the key to success in demanding projects lies in the operating model used in Kokkola. In practice, this means that for wind power projects, the overall project management and responsibility rest with the Port of Kokkola. As a result, the various companies involved can fully focus on their core expertise. And let’s not forget the contribution of every individual worker—their attitude and commitment play a significant role in achieving success.

Several key factors enable the successful execution of wind power projects at the Port of Kokkola: a deep-water channel, a 15-hectare port area, two 150-ton cranes, and investments in storage facilities. However, the most critical component is the special transport route implemented by the Port of Kokkola, which connects the port to the exit roads via the major industrial area and urban zones. In addition to these favorable conditions, meticulous planning, often starting up to a year in advance, lays the foundation for each project’s success.
